Wolfgang Obermair is an German and Austrian artist and curator based in Vienna. He studied painting in Nuremberg at the Academy of Fine Arts and media art at the HfG Karlsruhe. His work was shown in various locations including Vienna, Moscow, Beijing, Porto, Zagreb, Vancouver. Since 2001 he has been curating exhibitions for the Nuremberg based kunstbunker – forum for contemporary art, including “Ellen Cantor – Video and Drawings” (2001), “Sergey Bratkov. Menschen im Bunker“ (2004 with E. Shapiro-Obermair) and “Das Authentische als Kunst – Mommartzfilme 1967 – 2006” (2007 with H. Gabler). Between 2012–2017 he was part of the Viennese collective Schneiderei. Since 2017 he runs the artist run space hoast together with Ekaterina Shapiro-Obermair. Obermair is co-editor of “Das Große Moskau, das es niemals gab” (The Big Moscow that has never existed. 2008, Vienna: Schlebrügge), which examines the position of constructivist architecture in today´s Moscow. Currently, Obermair is teaching at the University of Applied Arts Vienna in the department for Transmedial Art .
