March 30—April 12, 2019, Gabriele Edlbauer and Julia Goodman: Déjà View

For their exhibition at Hoast, artists Gabriele Edlbauer and Julia Goodman are showing a recently completed collaborative series.

Déjà view is a déjà vu currently in its 30s. It is a historicized tactic transplanted and transferred by contemporary tools, such as copy and paste. In a series of five reliefs, those banal techniques merge with the contents of still life paintings. And while Soutine’s piles of rotten meat had neighbors complaining, their scent is gently timed.

Gabriele Edlbauer (AT) received her BFA at the Royal Institute of Art Stockholm in 2011 and her Magister at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in 2012. She is currently teaching at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Edlbauer has participated in numerous exhibitions nationally and internationally including Luckman Gallery (US), Lulea Art Biennial (Sweden) and Contemporary Istanbul (Turkey).

Julia Goodman (US) currently studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (Julian Göthe, Ashley Hans Scheirl) and received her BFA from New York University in 2009. Selected exhibitions include: Galerie 5020, VBKÖ, ksRoom, SCAG Contemporary, One Work Gallery (AT), Kylie’s New Living Room (US)
